In the first half of the year, the export of the textile-clothing chain totaled US $ 685 million 542 thousand, 1.6% more than the same period last year (US $ 674 million 962 thousand). Although the garments closed in blue, the textiles experienced a severe fall, reported the Manufactures Management of the Association of Exporters (ADEX).

In order to consolidate the recovery, after several years of decline, exporters from both sectors considered the full validity of Law No. 22342 (Law on the Promotion of Non-Traditional Exports) and the refund of the Drawback important5%, as mentioned by the president of the union, Erik Fischer Llanos, Peru still does not reach the levels of competitiveness of other countries with those competing abroad.

The absence of sectoral policies is also on the agenda. Entrepreneurs meanwhile continue to identify new markets and now want to penetrate more US states . and other countries in Europe.

The textile-apparel chain faces high costs that result in low competitiveness that generates informality. The challenge is to give it more and more added value, because along with improving the price of the product, more jobs are generated.

Last year, the stock of jobs (direct, indirect and induced) of both sectors was almost 294 thousand, the second most important within non-traditional offices, after agribusiness.

This is how exports go

According to figures from the ADEX Data Trade Commercial Intelligence System , the garments amounted to almost US $ 483 million 826 thousand (+ 7.7%), however textiles with US $ 201 million 716 thousand contracted -11%.

USA It remains the main market for the supply of clothing (US $ 446 million 840 thousand), presenting a 10.1% increase, followed by Brazil, Chile, Germany and Canada. Its main items were the single-colored cotton t- shirt for men and women, the other cotton t- shirts for men and women, cotton knit shirts, knitted inner shirts and others.

On the other hand, the demand for textiles presented a contraction due to lower shipments to China, which in the first half of the year ranked sixth in the ranking after Italy (66% increase), Colombia (-1.7%), USA (-2.1%) and Ecuador (-8.1%). Shipments to the Asian country fell -59.8%.
